Mojave 3 were formed in the summer of 1995 by Neil Halstead, Rachel Goswell and Ian McCutcheon. The three formed the band after their previous band Slowdive were dropped from Creation Records in 1995 due to the poor sales of their final album 'Pygmalion'. They were quickly snapped up by 4AD, after they had been impressed by a 6 track demo. They released their debut album 'Ask me tomorrow' in November 1995. Mojave 3 were first sighted on MTV's alternative nation when 'Love songs on the radio' was aired. Later that month they made their live debut in Tabernacle, London with 4AD label mates Tarnation. They then went on to tour the album successfully in Europe and the US.
1997 was a quiet year for the band, and it was'nt until June 1998 that they resurfaced with the fantastic new single 'Who do you love', which was NME's single of the week. In September followed the equally superb 'Some kind of Angel', and in October the second long player 'Out of Tune' was released. The album was greeted with praise from critics. The band toured and started recording for their third album, through much of 1999. The album surfaced in May 2000, entitled 'Excuses for Travellers', and was again lauded by the critics. It is still somewhat of a mystery though why the band are still relatively unknown in the music world. Neil Halstead is quite clearly one of the best songwriters Britain has produced in the last thirty years. 2001 also promises to be a good year for the band, and fans alike. Neil has been working on his solo album, due for release in the summer of 2001. Rachel is also currently demoing material for a solo album, and the band are preparing to record their fourth studio album! Mojave 3 fans clearly have a lot to look forward to in the coming months!
